Conway the Mastodon is preparing for his big move! Starting Thursday, January 6, museum visitors can say goodbye to a familiar sight. 
That’s right, the Conway Mastodon is going to welcome visitors to the Ohio Historical Society by showing his smiling face. The move starts this Thursday with Bob Glotzhober, the OHS Natural History Curator, and a team of skilled movers disassembling Conway. Friday, Conway’s core structure will be rotated so that the mastodon faces the entrance of the museum floor. Finally, all the pieces will be put back together on Saturday. The entire process will be open to the public and there will be special programing going on Thursday through Saturday. For more information on hours and admission, check out our website.

Adopt Conway Along with the festivities of moving our mastodon, the Ohio Historical Society is announcing the launch of our first ever Adopt an Artifact program! Now you can support the ongoing mission of the Ohio Historical Society by adopting one of your own favorite artifacts. Delight a friend or loved one by adopting an artifact in his or her honor or show your pride in Ohios history by adopting one for yourself. Funds raised by the Adopt an Artifact program will go to support the ongoing mission of the Ohio Historical Society, through the care and preservation of collections, educational programming, research, and daily operations. Adoptions can be made at the Ohio Historical Center, with online purchasing available at a later date. The first object up for “adoption” will be Conway the Mastodon! When you adopt an artifact at the Ohio Historical Society we will send you (or the recipient of your choice) an electronic adoption packet which contains: a personalized certificate of adoption, a fact sheet with a photograph and information about the significance of your artifact, and free admission to the museum on Adopt an Artifact day! All adoptions will be for the period of one year from the time of adoption and levels of adoption begin at $35.
Conway the Mastodon T-shirts are available to order in both adult and child sizes through Skreened. The shirts can be ordered through Skreened’s website and mailed to your home or you can pick them up at their High St. location. A portion of the profits from all t-shirt sales will go to the Ohio Historical Society!
