200th Anniversary

Mount Pleasant, OH—The first Quaker yearly meeting house west of the Alleghenies, located in the village of Mount Pleasant, will celebrate its 200th anniversary with tours, special displays and programs on Saturday, Aug. 2 and Sunday, Aug. 3.

Mount Pleasant, named a National Historic Landmark District for its association with the antislavery movement in the years leading up to the Civil War, is home to five documented Underground Railroad “stations” commemorates the Quaker Meeting’s House’s 200th anniversary with a home and garden tour.  During the weekend, tours of 1814 Quaker Meeting House, as well as several private, historic homes in the district; the early-19th-century Harris Bone Store; the 1835 John Gill House, now the Elizabeth House Tearoom; the1856 Mount Pleasant Historical Center; the 1840 Tin Shop; and the 1895 Burris Store and Gift Shop will be available. The tearoom will offer light lunch dessert and beverages.

On Saturday, Aug. 2, at 11 a.m., there will be special program in the 1814 Quaker Meeting House with 
The Hon. John Doyle Ong, Former U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Norway and descendent of Jacob Ong who built the house.

The hours for the Quaker Meeting House 200th Anniversary and house and garden tour are Saturday, Aug. 2, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 3 from 1 – 4 p.m.  Admission to the event and house and garden tour is $15.00/adults, $7.00/ages 6-13 and free/5 and under.

Ohio Historical Society is now Ohio History Connection
