The Robbins Hunter Museum in the Avery Downer House is one of America’s finest examples of Greek Revival Architecture. Built in 1842 by the successful businessman Alfred Avery, this house has a rich history, transitioning from a residence to a fraternity house and now to a museum. The meticulous restoration of the house to its former glory ensures that our Ohio Open Doors’ Tour offers a comprehensive insight into the 19th-century lifestyle of Central Ohio residents, making it a must-visit for history and decorative arts enthusiasts.

The museum will be open for this special free tour during the Ohio Open Doors Event on Wednesday, September 11th to Saturday, September 14th, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. We invite you to explore with us our over 180-year-old house museum. Guests will learn about the significance of our Greek Revival Architecture, explore the unique stories woven into our beautiful home, stroll in our nationally certified Jill Griesse Historic Garden, and discover our exciting connection to America’s first female presidential candidate, Victoria Woodhull. Visitors are sure to delight when they experience the hourly bell toll that honors Victoria. This tour is guaranteed to captivate visitors of all ages.
