Created to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the 19th Amendment, this exhibit highlights the suffrage activism of the youngest Beecher sister, Isabella Beecher Hooker, who lived in this house as a child and teen.

Fostered in her family’s philosophy and educated by her older sisters, Isabella believed that women had equal rights with men and worked tirelessly to make those rights a reality. Isabella wrote articles and essays, founded the Connecticut Woman Suffrage Association, and helped organize the 1870 National Woman Suffrage Association Convention in Washington, D.C. Though Isabella died before women got the right to vote, her legacy played a large role in the passing of the 19th Amendment.

This exhibit is included in museum admission.
