For the first time ever, the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums is opening the Carriage House for a special, behind-the-scenes guided tour. Eight tours of 10 people each will get an exclusive look inside this historic building, which once served as the carriage house for President Rutherford B. Hayes’ horses and carriage. The Carriage House features an upstairs living area, renovated into a modern space for special events and guest speakers. Please note that stairs are required to access the living area.
The Carriage House also includes a greenhouse where seedlings of Spiegel Grove trees and other plants are cultivated. The ground level offers a quaint screened-in porch overlooking the rose garden and a courtyard surrounded by a stone wall, both of which are accessible.
Tours last approximately 15 minutes and are free, but reservations are required and can be made at rbhayes.org. Please check in at the Carriage House porch area before your tour. The Carriage House is located behind the museum, with parking available at the back.
After your tour, stay for the free Verandah Concert, featuring Common Chords with Robert Jones and Matt Watroba.
