This is a four hour open house of Granville’s Old Academy Building built in 1833 as the original site of the Granville Female Academy established in 1827. It was a school until 1863 when it became the home of the Welsh Congregational Church and then it later became the local Grange in 1923. The building is not generally open to the public. During the open house, historic photographs of Granville will be displayed as well as an “ask me tour” of Granville’s history. This is the site of a fugitive slave trial of 1841 when citizens of Granville aided in the escape of a fugitive enslaved person on trial.
