Daniel McCook, Sr. from Carroll County, Ohio, ca. 1850-1863.Daniel McCook, Sr. built this home and his family lived here until 1853. During the Civil War, Daniel’s family contributed 9 soldiers to the Union cause including 5 generals. His brother, John McCook’s family contributed 5 officers. Four of Daniel’s family members, including Daniel himself, died in the conflict. Daniel McCook, Sr. was killed in 1863 at the Battle of Buffington Island. This battle between Union forces and Confederate raiders lead by General John Hunt Morgan was the only Civil War battle fought in Ohio.
