The Adena Effigy Pipe, Ohio’s State Artifact and an icon of ancient America, is one of the featured objects in a major new exhibition on the Plains Indians: Artists of Earth and Sky, which opens at the Musée du Quai Branly.As part of our trip, I visited several historic sites and museums in both Paris and London. I will share some of my adventures in future posts. Brad Lepper in Paris on April 7 and runs through July 20. The Ohio Historical Society’s Registrar of Collections, Lesley Poling and I had the privilege of traveling to Paris to assist with the unpacking of the pipe and to assess its condition prior to its installation in the first case visitors will see when they enter the new exhibit.

International visitors to this important new exhibition will have the opportunity to appreciate one of the most evocative representations of a human in all of ancient North American Indian art — Ohio’s Adena Effigy Pipe! From Paris, the exhibition will move to the Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City where it will be on display from September 19, 2014 to January 11, 2015. It then moves to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York from March 2 to May 17, 2015.
