CODE OF CONDUCT of the Ohio History Connection
We expect all users of Ohio History Connection sites and services to treat fellow visitors and staff, objects, buildings and grounds with kindness and respect. This includes adhering to all rules, policies and regulations established at each site. Contact sites directly for specific guidelines. Organization wide guidelines are listed below.
Users of Ohio History Connection sites and services whose behavior does not meet these expectations will be asked to change their behavior immediately as appropriate. Users who continue to engage in behaviors that violate our Code of Conduct may be asked to leave the premises by Ohio History Connection staff or local law enforcement. If issues continue, we reserved the right to deny access to our sites and services, including revoking membership.
- The Ohio History Connection is committed to providing our visitors, volunteers and staff with an environment free from verbal, physical or other types of intimidation, harassment, and discrimination with respect to admission and access to our sites, staff, programs, resources and activities. The Ohio History Connection does not permit harassment or discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, age, disability, marital or partnership status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, pregnancy, citizenship status or any other classification protected by applicable federal, state or local law. The Ohio History Connection is committed to maintaining a non-discriminatory environment free from all intimidation, harassment or bias based on these grounds.
- Handguns, firearms, deadly weapons, or dangerous ordnances are prohibited from the interior and exterior of Ohio History Connection properties, including property that is owned by the State of Ohio and in the custody of the Ohio History Connection. No person shall possess, have under their control, convey, or attempt to convey a firearm, deadly weapon or dangerous ordnances onto Ohio History Connection premises. A person holding a concealed carry permit may keep permitted firearms in their cars on Ohio History Connection premises if:
- Each firearm and all the ammunition remains inside the person's privately owned motor vehicle while the person is physically present inside the motor vehicle, or each firearm and all the ammunition is locked within the trunk, glove box, or other enclosed compartment or container within or on the person's privately owned motor vehicle.
- The vehicle is in a location where it is otherwise permitted to be.
- Service Animals, as defined by state and federal laws and regulations, are welcome at our sites. Check specific sites for any additional animal policies.
- Use grounds according to site-specific guidelines, including obeying posted hours, all signs and barriers.
- No soliciting for commercial or charitable purposes. First Amendment activities require a special use permit for assembly in specified areas. Use of Ohio History Connection sites for commercial activity is prohibited in the absence of specific permission. Those who want to engage in commercial activity, such as sales of merchandise or providing guided tours, must apply for and obtain a commercial use permit. - No use, sale, distribution or manufacture of alcohol or Illegal drugs allowed.
- Drone use is prohibited at all Ohio History Connection sites.
- No professional photography or filming without authorization.
- No metal detecting or disturbance of soil/property.
- Trespassing on, damaging or disturbing sites, objects, collection items, resources, grounds, or desecration of public monuments, mounds, earthworks and cemeteries are crimes. OHC will pursue prosecution of all who engage in such conduct and shall exclude such people from any OHC sites.
