Passenger Pigeon Featured in New Exhibit

Be sure to stop by the Ohio Historical Center and see the new exhibit “Transformation”, which features our passenger pigeon “Buttons”. Objects were selected by OHS curators which embody the idea of transformation. Representing Natural History, the passenger pigeon specimen was chosen because it represents how profoundly humans can effect the natural world, and in such a relatively short period of time. Passenger pigeons transformed from a population estimated at over 3 billion birds in eastern North America, to becoming totally extinct by 1914.

“Transformation” opened yesterday, Sept. 11, and will be open through March 30, 2014. The exhibit is free with paid museum admission, and admission and the exhibit are free to OHS members.
