The Eagle Scouts Have Landed at Fort Laurens

On July 14th, 2014 Eagle Scouts from Troop 4 and Troop 12 in Canton, spent the day working with archaeologist from Ohio Valley Archaeology, Inc. and Ohio History Connection to earn their Archaeology Merit Badge. Tim, Blake and James spent most of the day screening, carrying buckets of soil from the excavation pit and quickly moving equipment when Mother Nature decided to rain on us. Scouts 1

During their time on site they recovered fire crack rock, flint flakes and an archaic corner notched projectile point. Scouts 2

To complete their merit badge requirements, the three young men will present a letter describing their hard work on site and a report that describes how to prepare an archaeological evaluation, researching archaeology methods and proper preservation techniques. The young men still have a lot of work ahead of them.Scouts 3

All of us here at the Ohio History Connection, salute Tim, Blake and James for their hard work.
