The Columbus Dispatch published
an editorial in today’s paper calling attention to Ohio’s magnificent ancient earthworks. Both the
Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks and
Serpent Mound are on the United States Department of the Interior’s “
Tentative List” of sites to be considered for nomination to the UNESCO
World Heritage List. The editorial states that “Ohios ancients have left behind awe-inspiring structures with the primary purpose to serve as a ritual setting and express their understanding of the universe.” This legacy of Ohio’s ancient American Indian cultures deserves to be recognized as “a treasure for the world.” Brad Lepper
