What’s the History Fund?
Introduced in tax year 2011, the History Fund is a matching grants program funded by voluntary contributions from Ohioans on state income tax returns. One of four "tax check-off" funds found on Ohio personal income tax forms, it is the only such fund dedicated to supporting history-related projects. The History Fund is also made possible by other gifts to the Ohio History Connection specifically designated for the History Fund.
Who Can Apply?
Eligible applicants include, but are not limited to, local historical societies, public libraries, genealogical societies, university archives and special collections, historic preservation groups, archeological societies, county records management offices and incorporated “friends” groups of any of the above. What Does the History Fund Fund?
Eligible history projects fall into one of three broad grant categories: Organizational Development, Programs & Collections, and Bricks & Mortar. History Fund grants are awarded on a competitive basis and require a match from recipients. A body of representative experts from history-related organizations across Ohio makes grant recommendations, and the Ohio History Connection provides program support and administration. The Ohio History Connection administers the grant program and is not eligible for the History Fund grants.

To keep the History Fund going, we need your help. There are two ways to contribute. When tax time comes around, you can donate part of your Ohio income tax refund to the Ohio History Connection by opting to do so on your 2013 Ohio personal income tax return; all of the funds raised through this tax check-off help support the History Fund grants program.
