The Ohio Historical Society's History Fund is a competitive matching grants program funded by Ohioans through the “tax check-off” on the Ohio state income tax return (IT1040). In 2011, the "tax check-off" became the first and only source dedicated solely to supporting history-related projects in Ohio. The more donations OHS receives through the tax check-off, the more grants it can make through the History Fund.

The Ohio History Tax Check-Off and the History Fund Need Your Support Now
Why? The Ohio General Assembly recently established a new threshold for tax check-off programs like ours. The Ohio Historical Society needs to generate at least $150,000 each year or the Ohio History tax check-off, and the Ohio History Fund grants program it supports, could be jeopardized.
Congratulations to the 2013 Ohio History Fund Grant Recipients
Grant recipients are announced each year on Statehood Day. On February 27, 2013, the first grant awards were announced. Read about the projects here.
Eligible projects fall into one of three grant categories: Bricks & Mortar, Organizational Development, and Programs & Collections. History Fund grants are competitive and require matching funds, goods, and/or services from recipients. Experts from history-related organizations across Ohio review applications and make grant a recommendation, and the Ohio Historical Society administers the History Fund program.

History Fund Application. Click on the link to view the online grant application. After registering your email address and creating a password, you will enter the application. Applications are due in early September every year; exact date will be announced in early summer.
The History Fund application process is entirely online. No paper submissions of grant applications are accepted. Applications can be printed, however, for the applicants’ information.
Application Instructions.These Instructions can also be viewed on the application website. The Application Instructions spell out in detail how to complete the online application. We suggest you access the online application first and refer to the Instructions as you complete the application. If applicable, click here for the "Appendix - Request for Proposal Information" referred to in the application instructions.
